Bad News Is Getting Worse In Texas
The past twelve months have been the driest in Texas’ history. The drought has been going on since 2005 and some forecasters are saying that it could last for another nine years(!!!). The worst drought in Texas’ history (for now) lasted from 1950 to 1957. Back then, the state’s population was 10 million people. It now sits at 15 million, greatly increasing pressure on the water supply and increasing the effects that the drought will have.
It is terrible to see any part of the world suffer through such a difficult situation. But, I have to confess that I hope it gets the (mostly conservative) people down there thinking about climate change. It’s easy for Americans (and Canadians) to ignore the impacts of climate change when they are happening to Pakistan or Australia. It’s a little harder when it’s happening in your (dry and yellowed) back yard.
Having said that, I hope it rains on them soon.
