Senator John Kerry on Climate Change
In the US, senator John Kerry (Democrat) is going through confirmation hearings in the hopes of becoming the next Secretary of State. (The position is currently held by Hillary Clinton.) This confirmation is of interest to many of us because “the fate of the Keystone XL pipeline is in the next Secretary of State’s hands”. And, lucky for us, Senator Kerry is what you would call a climate hawk. (That’s a good thing, by the way!)
During the hearing, a Conservative politician voiced concerns about the damage that climate policy would do to the American economy. Senator Kerry responded by not only addressing the incredible risk that climate change poses to the well-being of Americans but also by speaking about the important economic opportunity that comes with a new energy paradigm. Take a look.
I like this guy!
In the video: while what Senator John Kerry says makes sense, the way he says it — given that appearances are (wrongly, in my view) all-important — doesn’t make the grade.
I view the figure in the foreground (the Senator) as the voice of reason, and the figure in the background (shuffling papers, fidgeting, checking his watch) as the typical reaction.
Hear! Hear! And hooray!
